I’m a junior college student who knows very little about airfare and air travel having traveled very little, if ever, on my own.

Like most things, there’s typically several ways to go about doing something. I’m interested in learning how and where to locate affordable, reliable fares for air travel, both domestic and international.

For example, I’ve heard of friends buying tickets from DFW Airport to Chicago for $80. Whether it was one-way or round-trip I’m unsure (my guess is one-way), but regardless, it’s better than spending hundreds of dollars.

But I’m also interested in visiting Western Australia and cities throughout the US, and I’d like to learn how to be a savvy, knowledgeable consumer when it comes to purchasing airfare.

Any tips, advice, recommendations, websites, technical information or otherwise would be greatly appreciated.

I am on an H1B visa. I will leave the USVI (STT) and go to the Bahamas through Miami. The problem is that there is only an hour and a half between arrival/departure in Miami. Would I have to go through immigration in Miami?… I would guess that USVI is similar to Puerto Rico in the sense that a valid U.S. driver’s license would suffice but apparently the USVI is subject to different rules. Any insight?

Also, would a 1 hr and a half layover suffice in Dallas (DFW) airport’s immigration? I have heard it surely is not enough in JFK or Atlanta (major airports).

I just graduated college and got my first “real” job. I am going to be traveling alone for the first time in a couple of weeks and I’m a little terrified. I’ve never flown anywhere by myself and on my trip I will be making stops in the DFW airport, the Chicago O’Hare airport, and the Detroit airport. I’ve heard some horror stories about the Chicago airport and how it’s hard to find where you need to be going because of the size… anyways… anyone have any tips for traveling through these airports, or anything else I should keep in mind?
