Dallas Video Festival
Dallas Theater Center, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd., Dallas; 214.526.8210
Kicked off in 1986 as a way to show that video is a creative medium for artists, The Dallas Video Festival has continued into the new millennium with entirely new mediums including DVDs, websites, streaming video, high definition and 24P. Supported by the non-profit group Video Association of Dallas, the festival continues to promote video as a medium of art and cultural force while advancing the work of Texas (and worldwide) artists working in video and electronic arts.

Dallas Wine and Food Festival 214.841.9191
Some of the gold medal wines from The Dallas Morning News Wine Competition are featured at the Dallas Wine and Food Festival to promote an appreciation and knowledge of the process that leads to fine wine and artisan cuisine. Cooking demonstrations, films, a farmer’s market and other exhibitions give people from all backgrounds the chance to experience the wondrous world of food and wine in Dallas. The Rising Stars Chefs’ Contests gives up-and-coming chefs the chance to compete their way to the top at the festival and offers an exciting event for the public.

Deep Ellum Arts Festival
2932 Main St, Dallas, Texas; Tel. 214.855.1881
One of the trendiest areas of Dallas, Deep Ellum, gives even more reasons to be a hip place to hang out in with the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. The free three-day festival is adult oriented with rock bands, beer gardens and the potential to be one of the best parties of the year in Dallas. Over 100 decorative and visual artists, poetry, muralists and dancers will be at the festival also known for the Pooch Parade.

GrapeFest
Palace Arts Center, 300 S. Main St., Grapevine, Texas; 817.410.3185
In the middle of September the city of Grapevine, Texas takes the time to celebrate the fruit of their namesake city. The GrapeFest is a four-day wine tasting event with live music on several stages, grape stomping, auctions, wine competitions, cooking demonstrations and even a tennis match. As the largest wine festival in the Southwest, the Annual GrapeFest allows wine connoisseurs and novices to have the chance to taste award-winning wines from Texas and beyond.

Greek Food Festival of Dallas
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 13555 Hillcrest Rd., 972.233.4880
Signature Greek cuisine and wine accompany performances, children’s activities and a marketplace for A Taste of Greek Dallas. The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church puts on the Greek food festival to profit several groups including the Girl Scouts of Tejas Council. Prepared by Dallas-area chefs, Greek pastries, food and wine give a taste of the Greek culture, one especially known for their great festivals. Families are encouraged to experience the Dallas Greek Festival especially since it offers options for all budgets.

Taste of Dallas
208 North Market, Suite A, Dallas, Texas; Tel. 214.991.0199
Over 40 Dallas-Fort Worth restaurants sell food below menu price at this free-entry Dallas festival. The outdoor event draws more than 275,000 people throughout the weekend to the trendy West End of Dallas to enjoy food, drink, retail booths and music on three stages. Even the pickiest palate will be pleased at this annual Dallas event with food from all over Texas to choose from.

Philadelphia has a bunch of History, but it gets cold during the winter time. It has a bunch of entertainment, and overall it is a great city. When I visited I fell in love with it.
Dallas is opposite of Philadelphia, it gets really hot and it doesn't have much history, but it is a great town for partying.
Memphis is so-so in the weather, and it does have history. Its home of Grace Land, where Elvis lived.
I think that it is your decision to make about where to go, but just make sure that you are happy in the long run!

With the hurricane moving in, Dallas will have rain and strong winds this weekend, so you'll probably need to find indoor things to do. If however, there is a break in the weather the annual Grape Fest will be going on in downtown Grapevine. Tickets $8. It runs through the weekend with jazz, rock & country bands. Wine, beer and champagne and lots of good food.
If there is a movie you'd like to see the Studio Movie grills are always fun.

Actually San Antonio and Austin, TX are doing better than both Houston and Dallas as far as unemployment, but they don't have the same amount of shopping and entertainment.

The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex has a staggering number of entertainment, restaurants and shopping selections.

Texas Largest Metropolitan Areas Ranked by Unemployment Rate, June 2009

Texas 8.0%

1 San Antonio 6.9%
2 Austin–Round Rock 7.1%
3 Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown 8.0%
4 Dallas-Plano-Irving 8.1%

There's a lot of entertainment in the Metroples but not actually in Dallas. Shopping is great in Dallas. The economy is better in Houston, which has the best in the state.
