Are San Antonio Fans too cocky?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

lets look at a little pattern here in the NBA finals over the past 3 years, shall we? 3 years ago–Lakers heavily favored over Detroit….Detroit wins in 5. 2 years ago, Detroit kills the entire league during the regular season, winning almost 70 games…Detroit loses to San Antonio. Last year, virtually every sports analyst was saying Dallas in 6. Miami ends up springing back from 0-2 to win 4 in a row.

Underdog has won all 3 of the past championships. Why are San Antonio fans so sure of themselves? Doesn’t Gregg Popovich tell his players to have a “fearful respect” for the other team? If Tim Duncan can have respect for the opponent, surely the fans can too.
btw, I’m not a Cavs fan, I don’t even know who else is on the team besides Lebron. I just think it’s irritating when I see a million posts that are all like “Do you stupid people in Cleveland think you have any chance in hell that you could beat us Spurs who are better than anyone else in the world.”

also, ya, Spurs have 3 championships. So did the Lakers when they were beat by Detroit.
man, Spurs fans have a lot of pent up anger. Angry as Kobe on a radio
ok Spursgolden, that’s what I was looking for. Love your team without having to shite on everyone else. Props to you, respect. you get the best answer

Cowboys fans, do you think your chance to win vs the Saints is 50/50? agree/disagree w/ Roy Williams?

More Important for the NHL: reach out to new fans or keep the ones it has?

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Lots of debate on this the last few days. Fighting is a great example, if banned it would alienate the people that watch the sport now, that is certain. But would it attract new people to the sport? And does that even matter?

The NHL has expanded dramatically in the “Southern Cites” the last 15 years to places like Dallas, Tampa Bay, Phoenix, Colorado, Anaheim. While some of these were expansion teams, others came at the cost of leaving a Canadian City.

The era of Gary Bettman (someone who is almost universally hated around here at Y!A) has ushered in several changes to try to reach out to more people: the shootout, the extra point for overtime, the infamous “glowing puck”, changes to “open up” the game.

So let’s get down to the crux of the matter. Is it more important to reach new people — changing the game in the process — or to preserve the rules and traditions of Hockey?
Bob – well argued
hockeygirl – Was it so hard to just answer the question either with “keep tradition” or “try to reach out to new fans”.?

You have a unique gift for putting words in my mouth.. If I WANTED to change the game, I would be phoning the NHL offices and writing letters to Bettman, not posting things on Yahoo Answers.

I don’t deny I have some strong feelings about fighting in Hockey. I don’t deny I am in the minority in this but at least the recent question posted with something like 500 answers should satisfy you I am not some “Johnny come lately” person who does not know the sport.

And by the way, what exactly are the other answers to this question supposed to PROVE anyway? This is the HOCKEY section!!!! What do you EXPECT most people who follow Hockey the way it is played NOW to say?

Bob ANSWERED the question and argued his case well. You had a chance to do the same but instead just decided to descend to a “See I told you so” attitude.

good news packer fans?

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Charles Woodson and KGB are set to return against Oakland. i don’t know about our DT’s just yet, they are still a little banged up. now we can go back to man to man coverage on defense with them back on the field. hopefully they stay healthy though. i was getting nervous, cause we would probably lose to Oakland without them. Detroit and Dallas easily moved the ball against our D without them. just figured i’d give some positive thought back to us.

Go Pack Go!

oh, and Favre should be good to go against Oakland.
what do the Eagles have to do with this? this was just a statement to give my packer backers some inspiration, because our team is beginning to heal.

Do the LA Lakers have the most fans in the 4 major pro sports?

Monday, May 10th, 2010

There were so many people at that parade… and you can’t forget about all of the Laker fans in other states and worldwide. So do they have the most fans out of the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL? The only franchise that I think might have more fans are the Dallas Cowboys.
Damn… I can’t believe i forgot about the Yankees. considering I’m a fan…
#1 Rockets Fan – I live in NY and believe me, there are A LOT of Knicks fans here. Why do you think they still make the headlines even though they’ve been terrible for nearly a decade
