Which City Do You Consider To Be The Largest: Dallas Or Houston?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

heres my take, which seems pretty rational: dallas is a very large, diverse, and cosmopolitan city and is home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other city in the nation.
Besides it being a business “mecca”, it also has some of the best shopping and dining in the nation, with more restaurants per capita than even NYC.
Also, dallas is the fourth largest metro in the nation. It’s home to over 6.7 million people and is only smaller than new york, los angeles, and chicago.
Although Houston has the largest city proper in the state, dallas is home to the largest metro area, and has a lot more high-quality suburbs. I think the houston area is home to about 5.8 million people as opposed to dallas 6.7?
Also, the reason why more people live in the houston city proper is because houston has about twice as much land as DAL does, so more room for people to live. but dallas is more densely populated, and more people live in the dallas area. Lets hear opinions on both sides!

Which Receivers Are You Impressed With This Season And Why?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I know it’s still early in the season but I am really impressed by Dallas Clark even though his not a receiver. A tight end has no business making big plays and catches like he does. Does he even block, lol? I’m finally happy that people are starting to consider Andre Johnson the best WR in the league and Reggie Wayne is just something else. I always felt that Marvin Harrison was the reason he was so good but I was wrong.

Which Is More Important? Income From Foreign Students Or National Security?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

DALLAS — News 8 has learned that federal authorities have begun a nationwide investigation of the foreign student visa process as a result of Thursday’s attempted bombing in Dallas.
The suspect in that case — 19-year-old Hosam Maher Husein Smadi — was in the United States under an expired student visa.
Two weeks ago, Smadi was cited for driving without a license in Ellis County. Police do not routinely ask suspected traffic offenders about their immigration status. If they had in his case, they would have found the Jordanian national was in the United States on an expired student visa.
It’s another example of an immigration policy that some say is best described by two words: “Weak” and “weaker.”
“Overstays on student visas is a tremendous problem,” said Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas), a member of the House Immigration Subcommittee. “Now approximately 60 percent of the people in the United States are here illegally. They overstayed. They never went home. And some of the 9/11 hijackers were people who did that very thing.”
Smadi took a full-time job at a barbecue restaurant in Italy, Texas last year. His friends said he never attended school in Texas, meaning he was in the country illegally.
Smadi was originally admitted to the U.S. to attend high school in Santa Clara, California.
“When you give people visas, unfortunately it’s very, very difficult to ferret out who’s there to get an education versus who’s there to do a crime,” said former U.S. Attorney Richard Roper.
Corrupt immigration is an increasing concern for the FBI. An undercover video provided by the agency shows a corrupt law enforcement official at the U.S.-Mexico border. He’s seen bribing a man he believes to be an immigrant to enter the country illegally.
The border official in the video was paid $5 million by drug cartels to help them smuggle narcotics.
Over the last five years, 94 federal customs officials have been charged with corruption related to their jobs, all the more reason to tighten the focus on immigration.
“We must continue to have border security; to make sure that border security remains a national security issue; that we control people coming into the United States; and we know who they are,” Poe said.
Foreign students spend money on their schooling in the United States. Education is, in fact, one of America’s biggest exports. http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/wf…

Does Any One Have A Good Bar-b-que Sauce Recipe Which Does Not Contain Tomato Sauce, Tomato Paste Or Ketchup?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

In the 50’s/60’s, there was a bar-b-que establishment in Dallas, Texas, named Shoemaker’s. Served sliced meats with a thin bar-b-que sauce that contained no tomato products. They were in business for years with many stores but seem to disappear over night … however, I ‘ve never forgotten their bar-b-que sandwiches and the flavorful sauce. Got a really tasty sauce recipe with no tomato?

In Which Season Are Flights Cheapest?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

I live in Dallas and want to visit a family member in the San Fran area, and I made this same trip a year ago when I lived in SF, going from SF to DFW for no more than $250, during Christmas time too.
But this year I looked up the same flight and it’s nearly $400, so I’m thinking it’s not worth it to pay this much for just a two day trip. So at what time of the year would cheaper flights be available? I know that gasoline prices have skyrocketed and flights have become more expensive, so I would like to plan for a time when the fare would be decent from DFW to San Francisco, San Jose, or Sacramento..one of those airports. :)

So Which Place Should I Eat At For Lunch?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

So, I’ve been stranded here all night at Dallas FW Airport because American Airlines is f.u.b.a.r. (f*cked up beyond recognition). I am trying to decied which airport cuisine I should dine at when lunch comes around. The choices are:
Manchu Wok
Popey’s
TGIFriday’s
Subway
McDonald’s
Taco Bell
I’ll honestly eat at which ever gets the most votes. I’m kind of leaning towards Manchu Wok for some of that Honey Chicken.
Anyone else on here stranded at DFW? lol
